Your journey from Aasiaat to Qaqortoq
Leg 1: Aasiaat (JEG) → Nuuk (GOH)
Air Greenland operates direct flights from Aasiaat Airport to Nuuk Airport (GOH) with a Dash-8 turboprop aircraft. The flight takes approximately 1 hour and 25 minutes over around 505 km and operates several times a week, year-round. As Aasiaat is a smaller airport, we recommend arriving at least 90 minutes before departure. Check-in opens 2 hours before departure and closes 45 minutes before.
Transfer in Nuuk (GOH)
In Nuuk, you will change aircraft for the onward flight to Qaqortoq. Nuuk Airport is Air Greenland's main hub, so connections are generally scheduled to avoid an overnight stay along the way. Always check your specific connection time when booking, as schedules may vary depending on the season and demand.
Leg 2: Nuuk (GOH) → Qaqortoq (JJU)
The second leg is operated with a Dash-8 turboprop aircraft, taking approximately 1 hour and 25 minutes over around 480 km. Since the opening of Qaqortoq Airport in April 2026, this leg is flown with fixed-wing aircraft up to twice daily, year-round, connecting South Greenland directly to the domestic network via Nuuk.
Arrival in Qaqortoq (JJU)
Qaqortoq is South Greenland's colourful main town, set among mountains and fjords. The town is known for its outdoor sculpture gallery, its lively square and historic sights – a great base for exploring the Hvalsey Church ruins, the hot springs at Uunartoq, and the surrounding fjords by boat, kayak or on foot.
When is it cheapest?
As with other domestic connections via Nuuk, fares vary with demand rather than a fixed season. Prices tend to be lowest outside the summer peak and around major local holidays, so it's worth comparing dates in the booking calendar above and booking ahead where possible.
In case of weather-related changes
Greenlandic weather can affect flights on both legs. In the event of a weather-related cancellation, we will rebook you free of charge on the next available departure, and you will be contacted automatically by SMS and email. We recommend choosing a flexible ticket type, as a delay on one leg may affect your connection in Nuuk.
