Leg 1: Iqaluit (YFB) → Nuuk (GOH)
The journey starts with Air Greenland’s international seasonal route across the Davis Strait, flown with a Dash 8-200 turboprop aircraft (37 seats), a distance of approximately 825 km. The flight takes approximately 2 hours and only operates once a week, every Wednesday, in the season from 24 June to 30 September. Note the 3-hour time difference – Nuuk is ahead of Iqaluit. We recommend arriving at the airport at least 1 hour before departure. Check-in opens 2 hours before departure and closes 45 minutes before. Remember a valid passport, plus a possible eTA or visa depending on your nationality and travel history.
Connecting in Nuuk (GOH)
After landing in Nuuk, you change to the domestic route onward to Sisimiut. As the Iqaluit-Nuuk leg only operates once a week, you should plan your onward journey with a good margin. Depending on your connection time, an overnight stay in Nuuk may be worth considering before continuing to Sisimiut, though same-day connections are often possible given the frequent domestic schedule.
Leg 2: Nuuk (GOH) → Sisimiut (JHS)
Air Greenland flies directly from Nuuk Airport to Sisimiut Airport with a Dash-8 Q200 or Q400 turboprop aircraft. The flight takes approximately 55 minutes to 1 hour and operates several times daily year-round, giving you good flexibility for choosing your onward connection after landing in Nuuk.
Arrival in Sisimiut (JHS)
Sisimiut is Greenland’s second-largest town, known for its colourful houses, dog sledding traditions and dramatic mountain scenery. From Sisimiut Airport you can continue onward within Greenland, including connections towards Ilulissat, Aasiaat and Kangerlussuaq. The currency in Greenland is the Danish krone (DKK).
