Your journey from Qaqortoq to Iqaluit

Leg 1: Qaqortoq (JJU) → Nuuk (GOH)

Air Greenland departs directly from Qaqortoq Airport to Nuuk Airport (GOH) with a Dash-8 Q200 or Q400 turboprop aircraft. The flight takes approximately 1 hour and 25 minutes and operates up to twice daily year-round. We recommend arriving at the airport at least 1 hour before departure. Check-in opens 2 hours before departure and closes 45 minutes before.

    Connecting in Nuuk (GOH)

In Nuuk, you change to the international seasonal route towards Iqaluit in Canada. As this leg only operates once a week – every Wednesday during the summer season – you should plan your departure from Qaqortoq with a good margin. Depending on arrival time, an overnight stay in Nuuk may be necessary before the onward flight. Also remember a valid passport for Canada, plus a possible eTA or visa depending on your nationality.

Leg 2: Nuuk (GOH) → Iqaluit (YFB)

The final leg is flown with a Dash 8-200 turboprop aircraft (37 seats) across the Davis Strait, a distance of approximately 825 km. The flight takes approximately 2 hours and only operates once a week, every Wednesday, in the season from 24 June to 30 September. Note the 3-hour time difference – Iqaluit is behind Nuuk.

    Arrival in Iqaluit (YFB)

Iqaluit is the capital of the Canadian territory of Nunavut. From Iqaluit Airport, in partnership with Canadian North, you can travel onward to destinations including Ottawa, Montreal and Kuujjuaq. The currency in Canada is the Canadian dollar (CAD).

    When is it cheapest?

As Nuuk-Iqaluit only operates during the summer season (24 June-30 September), there is no low season to choose between for this specific route. Book well in advance, as the season is short, capacity is limited (37 seats weekly), and demand is high.

    • High season (Jun–Sep, the only period the route operates): from DKK 6,500

In the event of weather-related changes

Weather on both legs – particularly over the Davis Strait – can affect the flight. In the event of a weather cancellation, we rebook you free of charge to the next available departure. Note that the next departure on the weekly Nuuk-Iqaluit leg is not until a week later, so we recommend a flexible travel plan and a good margin in your planning.

Frequently asked questions about JJU → YFB

The total travel time is approximately 4-6 hours including the stopover in Nuuk, depending on connection time. The first leg (Qaqortoq-Nuuk) takes approximately 1 hour and 25 minutes, and the second leg (Nuuk-Iqaluit) takes approximately 2 hours.

The Qaqortoq-Nuuk leg operates up to twice daily year-round. The Nuuk-Iqaluit leg, on the other hand, only operates once a week, on Wednesdays, and exclusively in the season from 24 June to 30 September. Outside this period, the journey is not possible.

In the event of weather-related cancellations, we rebook you free of charge to the next available departure. As the Nuuk-Iqaluit leg only operates once a week, a cancellation could mean a delay of up to a week, so we recommend planning with a good margin.

Economy tickets include 20 kg of checked baggage plus 8 kg of hand baggage for the entire journey from Qaqortoq to Iqaluit. Your baggage is normally checked through, so you don't need to handle it yourself during the change in Nuuk.

Yes. As the journey goes to Canada, a valid passport is required. Depending on your nationality, an eTA (Electronic Travel Authorization) or visa may also be required. Always check the current entry requirements with Canadian authorities before departure.

This depends on your arrival time from Qaqortoq compared with the weekly departure time to Iqaluit on Wednesday. As Nuuk-Iqaluit only operates once a week, many travellers should expect at least one overnight stay in Nuuk on the way to or from Iqaluit.

All tickets can be changed free of charge within 24 hours of booking. After that it depends on the fare type – Flex tickets can be changed freely, while discounted tickets carry a change fee. See the terms for your specific ticket in your booking confirmation.
